Georgia Falls to South Carolina, 11-5, at Junior Challenge Match

AWENDAW, S.C. - After two days of exciting matches, the Peach State falls to the Palmetto State 11-5 at the Georgia-South Carolina Junior Challenge Match. The 42nd annual competition took place at Bull's Bay Golf Club, July 21-22.

In the eight matches on day two, Georgia earned three points. Owen Burden of Atlanta defeated Holden Grigg of Myrtle Beach, S.C., 2 and 1; Davis Kirk of Dalton defeated Harry Reynolds of Greenville, S.C., 2 and 1; and Grant Sutliff of Suwanne outlasted Levi Moody of Greenville, S.C., 2 and 1. 

Matches which finished in South Carolina's favor included Beck Burnette of Blairsville falling to Walker Jones of Sumter, S.C., 2 up; Takafumi Shimoji of Suwanee falling to Zachary Reuland of Rock Hill, S.C., 1 up; Matthew Giesler of Marietta falling to Jacob Bridgeman of Inman, S.C., 5 and 4; Jack Vajda of Canton falling to Zack Gordon of Gaffney, S.C., 5 and 4; and Brandon Cho of Suwanee falling to Ryan Marter of Columbia, S.C., 2 and 1.

On day one, Georgia won two matches which came from Owen Burden of Atlanta who defeated Walker Jones of Sumter, 3 and 1 & Brandon Cho of Suwanee who defeated Levi Moody of Greenville, 3 and 2. 

Format and Schedule

The 42nd annual Georgia-South Carolina Junior Challenge Match took place Friday and Saturday, July 21-22, at Bull's Bay Golf Club in Awendaw, S.C. The two-day event consisted of eight singles matches per day. Each match was worth one point, and both teams were awarded a half-point for matches that were all square after 18 holes.
